Oakwood Infant School has nine classes:
|Year R||Birch||Cherry||Chestnut||4 and 5 year olds|
|Year 1||Ash||Hazel||Pine||5 and 6 year olds|
|Year 2||Elm||Beech||Willow||6 and 7 year olds|
Each class has a class teacher and a learning support assistant who works with individual and groups of children. The maximum number of children in each class is 30.
The classrooms at Oakwood are light and spacious and each has an interactive whiteboard, access to pupil laptops and space for art and design activities. There are also learning bays outside of the classrooms that can be used for small group activities.
The school has a large hall which provides ample space for PE lessons, whole school and class assemblies and musical productions. The hall is also used at lunchtimes when the children come together to eat either a hot meal. Click here to view the current lunch menu.
All children have access to the well-stocked library where they can select books to read, research information and choose books to share at home.
The school has a kitchen, the Children’s Kitchen, where the children can enjoy cooking and learn about healthy eating.
Oakwood is built around a central courtyard where there is a large fenced pond and raised beds. The children use this area to study the environment, plant vegetables and enjoy relaxing outdoors.
Outside there are extensive grounds that include fields, wooded areas and two playgrounds. There is also a large adventure area containing the ‘Hearts of Oak’ ship – always popular with the children!
The Year R children have their own outside area with a covered area and space to play and learn.
